Moskow – Belum lama ini Rusia mengusir diplomat Inggris yang dianggap melakukan kegiatan mata-mata.
Rusia juga menegaskan bahwa negaranya itu tidak akan membiarkan mata-mata asing beroperasi di wilayah mereka tanpa izin.
Tuduhan ini telah memicu perseteruan diplomatik baru dengan London.
Inggris telah menolak klaim bahwa salah satu staf kedutaan mereka merupakan mata-mata. Penolakan terbaru dalam serangkaian tuduhan spionase yang hadir ketika hubungan kedua negara berlangsung pada titik terendah, dilansir dari VOA Selasa (26/11/2024).
Perselisihan ini juga muncul satu pekan, setelah Ukraina diizinkan mulai menembakkan rudal jarak jauh yang dipasok Inggris ke wilayah Rusia.
Sebuah langkah yang mengundang cemoohan dan ancaman pembalasan militer langsung dari Presiden Vladimir Putin, dan setelah Rusia menangkap seorang warga Inggris yang bertempur di pihak Ukraina.
Kementerian luar negeri Rusia memanggil Duta Besar Inggris, Nigel Casey setelah dinas keamanan FSB mengatakan, mereka telah membuka kedok seorang mata-mata Inggris.
FSB mengatakan diplomat Inggris itu, yang diidentifikasi sebagai wakil sekretaris kedutaan, nampaknya melakukan “kerja intelijen dan subversif, yang mengancam keamanan Federasi Rusia.”
“Moskow tidak akan menoleransi aktivitas staf intelijen Inggris yang tidak terbuka di wilayah kami,” ungkap kementerian luar negeri dalam sebuah pernyataan.
Mereka juga mengatakan bahwa pihaknya telah mengusir staf kedutaan tersebut karena berdusta terkait akreditasi dan aplikasi visa.
Rekaman yang disiarkan oleh media pemerintah menunjukkan duta besar itu dikelilingi oleh jurnalis media pemerintah setelah dia tiba di kantor kementerian luar negeri di pusat kota Moskow.
Sementara itu Pemerintah Inggris menolak tuduhan Rusia dan berjanji memberi tanggapan.
“Ini bukan pertama kalinya Rusia membuat tuduhan yang jahat dan tidak berdasar terhadap staf kami. Kami akan merespon pada waktunya,” kata juru bicara kantor Kementerian luar negeri Inggris.
London dan Moskow telah saling usir sejumlah diplomat masing-masing negara atas tuduhan mata-mata dalam beberapa tahun terakhir.
Badan inteligen Rusia FSB mengatakan, pria yang diusir pada Selasa merupakan pengganti untuk salah satu dari enam pejabat Inggris yang telah diusir Rusia pada awal tahun ini, juga dalam tuduhan spionase.
